What the…?!?”PUP MURAL”

(Students Perception about PUP MURAL)

(THE PUP MURAL)

PUP MURAL is a sculpture made by Eduardo Castrillo in 1974. This is an artwork made of brass which signifies the role and responsibility of the youth in the development of our country. The theme of this is the CONSOLIDATED GROWTH TROUGH EDUCATION (the role of Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in the educational development). It illustrates the different aspects of life with which man adopts for the growth of the country in the future. This mural shows that our university believes that their students are some of the hopes of the country for us to have progress or development in the future.
Unfortunately, many of these students didn’t even notice this art piece and they also don’t know what’s the purpose and meaning of this. I’ve interviewed some students about their perception on the PUP MURAL and here are their insights:
“It was discussed by my professor in humanities. He says that the theme of this art piece is CONSOLIDATED GROWTH TROUGH EDUCATION which is the role of our university in the educational development in the country…. ”

–Jake Mark 3RD year BS IOP

“I know about it but I’m not interested to look at it…”

-Steven 4th year BBRC

“It’s not noticeable…it should be placed were people can easily see it…”

-Barbie 4th year Marketing

“The mural was beautiful and okay as long as it didn’t disturb the people passing by…”

-Gilbirth 3rd year BBA-MN

“The mural was important but it can’t be easily understood and it should be place in front not on the side were people can’t see it …”

-Moises 4th year AB-English

Now we know some of the perceptions of the students in this university about this art piece so therefore we conclude that there are students who know about it but most of them don’t really know the meaning and purpose of this. I hope after reading this article you’ll realize your real purpose in the university.
